AK Police Nab Suspected Killers of Okon Uwah

As the death of late politician and former Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly continue to stun citizens of Ukanafun and other persons in the State, the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Mr Gabriel Achong has said four persons suspected to be among the killers of the Late Hon. Okon Uwah were nabbed by the Police.
Commissioner Achong said the four suspects(whose names he refused to disclose) got routed as a result of the coordinated investigation of the Police, and were helping the Police in the investigation, but however stated that the findings of the investigation “will be made public” and “anyone found culpable will be prosecuted no matter his/her position in the society”.

Mr Achong said that the Police under his command had sensitized all political stakeholders and their supporters/sympathizers through workshops, seminars and press releases to play by the rules and avoid the use of abusive, inflammatory and inciting language.
He said Akwa Ibom State Police Command was not ready to allow any disgruntled person or group to displace the current peaceful and stable security situation enjoyed in the state, adding that  his command will not hesitate to deal decisively, according to law, with any person or group that threatens the public peace.
He advised parents and guardians to monitor their children/wards to avoid being used by desperate politicians as cannon fodders, just as he advised political stakeholders to caution their supporters to be law abiding at all times.
He assured that the State Police Command was totally committed and prepared to ensure a violent-free, fair and credible 2015 general election.

In a chat with Journalists Mr Achong said findings revealed that nine suspects were involved in the murder of Late Hon. Okon Uwah but that five suspects were still at large.  He disclosed that men and officers of his Command had cordoned off and were combing the entire bush where the suspects are said to be hiding and that before this week is out God would help them to arrest the remaining five persons at large.
He said when all the suspects are caught they would be charged to Court in their names as suspects to the crime not as political party members, advising that political Parties should be left out of the issue and that people should not play politics with human life in times like this.
He warned Journalists to beware of what they report in the newspapers, adding that they should not overheat the polity with fabricated news stories but report facts at all times.  He threatened to arrest any Journalist who makes any false report against any person that would petition his office.  “Justify what  you write and note that you are writing about somebody”, Mr Achong said.
However, the former  Deputy Speaker, Obong Okon Uwah was killed while on a campaign meeting at Ikot Akpan, Nkek, Ukanafun local government area on Wednesday March 18, 2015.  Okon Uwah was a member of some professional bodies, a candidate of All Progressives Congress(APC) for Ukanafun State Constituency in the 2015 elections and a philanthropist.
