By Ephraim Ikpe
As the struggle to take over and occupy the Hill top Mansion white house in Akwa Ibom State intensifies, the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA) last week, in a primary election held at the Party’s office at the Plaza, Uyo, nominated Obong Godwill Okon Richman(JP) as the Party’s governorship candidate for the 2015 elections in Akwa Ibom State.

Guber candidate of APGA in AKS for 2015

According to our reporter who monitored the exercise which was said to be orderly and peaceful, out of a total of 2300 delegates of the Party, 1800 voted for Obong Godwill Okon Richman while 500 votes were voided.
The primary election of the Party was supervised by officers of the Party from the APGA National headquarters in Abuja named Mr Muhammed Sampson and Mr Ita Ekpo(a chieftain of APGA in Akwa Ibom) and, assisted by the State Chairman of APGA Mr Uwem.

Also in attendance to observe the exercise was an official of  the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Akwa Ibom State Mr Usoro and that of Abuja Mr Useni.
The accreditation of delegates, voting, sorting of ballots papers, counting and declaration of results started at 4pm up until when the exercise ended at 10pm of Thursday December 11, 2014.
Accepting the will of the delegates after being declared the Party’s candidate, Obong Godwill Richman said that he has come into the governorship race of the state as a game changer.  He said that the spate of movement of his Party to victory in the 2015 elections would be a mystery to many
He thanked the delegates for coming out in such great number to ratify his position as the candidate of the Party, having had no contender in the primary.
He charged members of the Party who came from across the state to conduct themselves well during his Party’s campaigns and be peaceful during the forthcoming elections, as the battle was not for the swift.
With this development, the number of political Parties likely to field candidates for 2015 governorship election swells by one, bringing the total to four in Akwa Ibom State, namely; PDP, APC, Accord Party and APGA.

Meanwhile, going by the INEC  timetable for 2015 elections, Party Primaries ended on Thursday December 11, 2014 while the names of all candidates of all Parties standing elections in 2015 is supposed to be filed with INEC on or before December 25, 2014.
