Ekperikpe Ekpo blows hot, Insists on taking Abak-five turn

 Backs Uwem Udoma for Reps

Former Federal House of Representatives member and Accord Party Senatorial candidate, Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo has explained that his encouragement to aspire for the 2015 Senate seat is due to the motivation he received from the entire people of former Abak Division known as “Abak- Five”.

Speaking in an interview recently, Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo lamented that he dropped his 2011 Senate ambition because of Governor Godswill Akpabio’s appeal for me to wait for “my turn in 2015, so that Senator Alloy Etok should go for second term under Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District”, pointing out that he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of the failure to keep to promise.
Hon. Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, Senatorial candidate for
Accord Party, AKS

“I am contesting for Senate under the platform of Accord Party, a party which stands for agreement, justice and equity. With my experience as a former member of the Federal House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011, I will be a ranking Senator when I go to the National Assembly this 2015. No matter how top a position you have, if you go to the National Assembly for the first time, you will be regarded as a fresher and not a ranking Senator. When you look at the credibility of the candidates listed by Accord Party, you will see the possibility of the party sweeping at the Polls in Akwa Ibom State. So I am so sure that Accord will win and shake the state. After all, we are the people that made PDP tick,”  he said.

“Certainly, I am favoured by the zoning system, nobody from Abak Fed. Const. that has gone to the Senate; Chief Donald Etiebet went from Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in 1979 to 1983;  Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien from Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara/Essien Udim was in Senate from 1999 to 2003;  Senator Itak Ekarika from Ukanafun /Oruk Anam Federal Constituency was in Senate from 2003 to 2007 and in 2007, Senator Alloy Etok from Ikono/Ini Fed Con went to the Senate till date, making it eight years and from this analysis, one can see that Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency has never produced a Senator,” Hon. Ekpo added.
“The Senate seat has previously been rotated between the former Ikot Ekpene Division and Abak Division. The former Ikot Ekpene Division now has Ikot Ekpene, Obot Akara, Essien Udim, Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas while former Abak Division has Abak, Ika, Etim Ekpo, Ukanafun and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas. Senator Alloy Etok from Ikono is from Ikot Ekpene former Division, so transferring the Senate baton from Senator Alloy Etuk to Gov Godswill Akpabio will mean that from Ikot Ekpene to Ikot Ekpene Division and not to Abak Division, thereby depriving the Abak Sector a chance of producing a Senator in an era we are preaching justice and equity. It will mean that Abak people will have to wait for 16 good years before producing a Senator, too bad. This is unacceptable by the people of Abak. That is why the people of Abak advised me to leave my former political party, PDP and join Accord Party to actualize our dream. We are happy that Accord Party stands for justice and equity,” he added.

On why he is in support of Hon. Uwem Udoma of APC to represent Abak, Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives 2015, Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo said: “My name is Obong Emem and Emem stands for Peace. After I completed my four year term in the Federal House of Representatives in 2011, some people came to me and put pressure on me to return to the Federal House of Representatives, but I said no since there was a policy and tradition of rotation in place and I had to respect it and conceded it to Etim Ekpo LGA in 2011 and now Abak has the right to produce Representative member and Uwem  Udoma, a member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly appears to be the best material for the position for now, he is a seasoned legislator and is favoured by the zoning policy. That is why I am supporting Uwem Udoma, regardless of Party back grounds.  He who goes to equity must go with clean hands.”
