Murder of Helen Ukpabio’s Brothers, 3 others

-AKS Senator, SSS, Police Accused

A serving Nigerian Senator of Akwa Ibom State origin, a 2007 PDP governorship aspirant and three “white men” are said to have masterminded the gruesome murder of Helen Ukpabio’s three(Emmanuel, Charles and Joseph Akpabio) brothers and three others.
A report by the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) claims that the six victims were lured by  a serving councilor into the hands of a named State Security Service operative in the company of more than twenty policemen, shot in the knees and crippled at Ikot Ekpene, then driven to Mbente in Nkari and murdered before members of  their families.

The CLO report states: “our investigation also reveals that a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in conjunction with a former Governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, hired the State Security Agent and the killer police to eliminate the family of Chief Essesien Akpabio in order for them to share the compensation in respect of the land whereof the Dam is being built.
“At this moment, the SSS and the killer Police are still hunting for Chief Essesien Akpabio and the daughter, Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio for elimination in order for them not to have any challenges in the sharing of the Dam compensation”.

“Our findings indicated that Chief Essesien Akpabio owns Eighty percent of the total land mass where a Dam is being constructed  in Nkari Clan and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources had approved about Five Hundred Million Naira (N500) as payment of compensation to the owners of the land where the Dam is being constructed”.
According to Ukutt esq. , the counsel representing Lady Apostle Ukpabio “On March 24th 2012, three white [men] purportedly working as expatriate[s] …(the contractor handling the construction of a Dam in Nkari Clan) in the company of a serving councilor of the same Nkari Clan went looking for the children of Chief Essesien Akpabio and Chief Essesien Akpabio himself. Three white men took a bottle of wine and invited the Akpabio’s children, being the youth leader in the community, for a meeting for a Community/Youth Empowerment in respect of the Dam Construction in their village. Joseph Akpabio, who was the Youth Leader, invited the other youths in the village for a meeting slated for the next day at his residence in Ikot Ekpene. Unknown to them, their best friend, now a serving councilor, was used as a bait to lure them out to be murdered by the operatives of SSS and some policemen.
“When they arrived in Ikot Ekpene the next day and the meeting took place, while the meeting was ongoing, the three “white men”  excused them to hold brief meeting with them outside the house. As they stepped outside, they met over twenty armed policemen and one SSS Operative whom they recognized having attended his child dedication ceremony sometime in 2011. The three white men who pretended that they wanted to hold a meeting with the trio then shook hands with the SSS Operative and left.
“The policemen and the SSS rounded them up and ordered everybody in the compound to lie face down, handcuffed and forced them into awaiting trucks. The traitor who was handcuffed had his handcuff released. He suddenly began to discuss with the policemen freely. The policemen and the SSS Operatives opened fire on the victim’s knees and crippled them. They used a raffia rope to tie Joseph who was questioning the traitor  what crime they had committed that he lured them into the hands of the SSS Operatives. Only the traitor was not hurt.
The police and the SSS drove them to their village with the traitor to identify the father of Emmanuel, Charles and Joseph to be killed. On getting to the village, the traitor was given a mask. The police and the SSS Operatives on arrival at Chief Essesien’s house ransacked everywhere looking for Chief Essesien while the masked traitor directed the police and the SSS operatives as to the possible where about of Chief Essesien Akpabio.
Eventually, the police and the SSS Operatives dragged Charles and Joseph to the plantain tree at the back of the compound and executed them in the presence of their aged parents. The other four boys including Emmanuel Akpabio were than taken away and were subsequently executed and dumped at the roadside and labeled armed robbers by the SSS Operatives and the police.
Even though the CLO report concedes that Police investigations are not yet concluded, it calls on “the president Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Director General of State Security Service, the Inspector General of Police and the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to urgently convene a tribunal of inquiry to look into this barbaric act of State terrorism, arrest and apprehension of the three white men working with AG Vision Nigeria Limited for the individual and collective role  played in the gruesome murder of the three Akpabio children. We also call on the President to urgently recover the corpse of Emmanuel Akpabio from the killer squad who took his corpse away on the 25th of March 2012 for decent burial.
“We urgently implore the President of the Federal Repbulic of Nigeria to direct the Inspector General of Police to beef up security around the Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio, their aged parents, Chief Essesien and Mrs. Atim Akpabio and the remaining members of that family, as the killer squad would do everything possible to conceal any evidence or eye witness in respect of the dastard murder|”, the CLO report said.
Article 4 of the Human Right Ratification and Enforcement Act, Chapter 10, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (1990) states that: Human beings are inviolable. Every human being shall be entitled to respect for his life and the integrity of his person. No one may be arbitrarily deprived of their right”.
